Dime Store Detroit

dimestore sausage hash

The Dime Store sits in one of Detroit’s oldest skyscrapers – the Dime Building! The restaurant serves all-day brunch and has an appealing industrial look with metal seats and a polished concrete floor. It has an industrial diner vibe that makes for a great brunch spot.

The Dime store offers 5 different types of eggs benedict and Dawn went with the healthy veggie option – portabella, roasted Roma tomato, spinach, avocado on English muffin. I was going to try the general tso benny but I opted for the homemade sausage hash with bell pepper, onion, avocado, crema, spicy ketchup!

Just look at how that hash was plated!

You’ll notice a third plate – the peach cobbler french toast – which took no arm twisting to convince me to order! It was fantastic! Warm brioche french toast, peach compote, shortbread crumble, and whipped cream! The shortbread crumbles made the dish!

Service was excellent and Ken, the waiter, took care of us and made it a great brunch experience.

Fun Fact: According to Historic Detroit, the Dime building was built by the Dime Savings Bank of Detroit in 1884. Anyone could open a savings account at the bank for just one thin dime! In 1929, the Detroit News wrote “and there are a great many Detroiters whose first bank accounts started with a dime in the Dime Savings Bank”.

It will cost you a little more than a dime to eat at the Dime Store but it is definitely worth it!
